FREE DISASTER PREPAREDNESS TRAINING:    The Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) Program, implemented in many communities across the country, is designed to increase individual and community preparedness and self-reliance in the event of man-made or natural disasters. The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has officially recognized CERT as an important part of disaster preparedness readiness. Residents are trained in emergency procedures and are registered as Disaster Service Workers in accordance with the California Government Code and the City of Dana Point Municipal Code.

CERT training encompasses the following elements:

  • Disaster Preparedness
  • Terrorism Awareness
  • Fire Safety
  • Disaster Medical Operations
  • Light Search and Rescue
  • Disaster Psychology
  • Disaster Communications
  • Team Organization
  • Disaster Simulation

The program, which includes 20 hours of classroom and hands-on training, prepares attendees for all types of hazards and disasters and is FREE to the residents of Dana Point.

For additional information and to register for the next scheduled training, contact Larry Meyerhofer, Emergency Services Coordinator, City of Dana Point at (949) 234-2800 or lmeyerhofer@danapoint.org.
